Ingredients
  

Pancake Mixture
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
Sausage Layer
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Topping
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup for serving

Method
 

Prepare the Pancake Mixture
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine the milk, egg, and melted butter. Mix well.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
Cook the Sausage
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat.
Assemble the Casserole
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a greased baking dish, spread half of the pancake mixture evenly.
  3. Layer the cooked sausage and half of the cheese over the pancake mixture.
  4. Pour the remaining pancake mixture over the sausage and top with the remaining cheese.
Bake the Casserole
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  2. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Serve
  1. Serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
