Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 small onion (finely grated or minced)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk; let soak for 5 minutes. Add ground beef, onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper; mix until combined.
  2. Shape mixture into small balls (about 1 inch). Place on a baking sheet.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides (8-10 minutes). Remove from skillet.
  4. In the same skillet, add more butter if needed; whisk in flour to create a roux until golden brown. Gradually add beef broth and heavy cream; stir until smooth. Season to taste with soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. Return meatballs to the skillet; simmer for about 10 minutes until heated through and coated in gravy.
