  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. For the pecan topping, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  3. Arrange the pecans in the bottom of the prepared pan and pour the caramel mixture over them.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream softened butter with granulated sugar until fluffy; add eggs one at a time and then stir in vanilla.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture while alternating with milk until just combined.
