Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pastry for double pie crust
  • 23 tablespoons butter (cut into small pieces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Line a 9-inch pie plate with the bottom crust and trim excess dough.
  3. In a large bowl, mix sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well coated.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into the crust-lined pie plate and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second pastry dough and cover the apple filling. Seal edges by crimping or pressing with a fork.
  6. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Optionally brush with an egg wash.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for another 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow cooling before slicing.
